Handpicked Reviews
Editorial picks, compared and dated.

A pool robot pays for itself by not being a hose-and-pole job every weekend. The two decisions are coverage (floor only, or floor and walls) and whether the robot filters fine debris or just pushes it around. We compared five current cordless robots - four full-size cleaners and one surface skimmer - on runtime, climb ability, basket capacity and how much they leave behind on a leaf-heavy pool.

Buyer's Guide
Floor only, or floor and walls?
Floor-only robots are cheaper and lighter, and they handle the bulk of the dirt. Wall and waterline cleaning is what you pay the premium for - and it only helps if the robot genuinely climbs.
Runtime versus pool size
Battery runtime has to cover your pool end to end with margin. A robot that quits mid-pool leaves a visible line of debris where it stopped.
Filtration matters more than suction
A fine basket holds silt and pollen; a coarse one drops it back. If your pool looks cloudy after cleaning, the filter is usually the culprit, not the motor.
Surface skimmers are a different tool
A skimmer robot drifts on the surface collecting leaves and pollen before they sink. It complements a floor robot; it does not replace one.
Storage and upkeep
Cordless robots need charging between runs and the basket rinsing after each. Check the basket is easy to remove with wet hands, because that is the job you will do most.
FAQ
For most residential pools, yes. Corded models still win on very large pools where runtime is the limit.
Two or three times a week in season, and after any storm.
Only models rated for wall and waterline cleaning, and only on suitable surfaces. Check the specification rather than the marketing photos.
Less often. Waterline scum and steps usually still need a hand brush.
