Full Car Covers FAQ
Frozen winter morning, cover iced to the roof, and this is where size shows up: too tight and you're tugging at the mirror pockets before the glass is clear. Judge by the widest points — mirror to mirror, and whatever sits above the roofline. A rack adds height the cover has to clear. If the listing gives only body length, keep looking.
Bring help, park in a dry spot, and do it in this order. Step 1: let the exhaust and hood cool before anything touches the paint. Step 2: lay the cover front to back, mirror pockets first, then roof-rack cutouts. Step 3: clip and tension the under-straps before you walk away. A warm surface traps moisture under the fabric, and a loose hem in wind flogs paint.
Layer count decides how much weather it shrugs off; breathability decides whether the paint stays dry underneath. A high layer count with poor breathability traps condensation, and you find it as water spots at dawn. Straps are the part that fails in wind — check them where they meet the hem, because that's where a loose cover flogs. If you park facing the prevailing wind, expect to re-tension.
Wash it on the car or spread flat, never in an agitator machine, and never with fabric softener — that clogs breathability. What wears out is predictable: straps, elastic hems, seam tape. Rinse before storage, dry it fully, and fold it loose rather than tight. Bag it damp and you'll smell it next season, with the breathability already compromised.
The cover isn't the whole bill. Straps and elastic go first, and a badly fitting cover gets replaced rather than repaired — that's the long-term cost, paid twice. Buy for the vehicle you'll still have: a rack added later can push you into another size. Storage eats shelf space, and a damp bagged cover is money already wasted. Listings that skip layer count and breathability don't earn a place on this page.
Before you pay, get it in writing: what happens when a strap tears, whether mirror and roof-rack fit is covered, and who pays return shipping on a wrong size. Fit problems, not stitching failures, are what send covers back — a warranty that only covers defects won't help. Keep the original bag through the season. If returns aren't spelled out, that's your answer.
