Bistro Sets FAQ
Two, and only two. A three-piece set is a table plus a pair of chairs, so read every listing's piece count as parts, not people. Match seat width and tabletop diameter against your actual plates before ordering. On a narrow balcony, chairs that tuck under the top beat a wider arrangement you fold away daily.
Start with the surface. Grass and gravel let a light frame walk in gusts; a deck or slab holds it, and a solid railing gives you something to lash against. Exposed sites and upper floors need ballast or a tether — a set standing on its own feet is not anchored. Rooftop or shared terraces: clear it with the building office first.
Folding frames loosen at the pivot; fixed frames stay tight but eat floor space all winter. Expect a slight rock on uneven paving, and expect the table to shift in a strong gust once chairs are stacked on it. Keep heavy items low. Snow left sitting on a mesh top pushes the whole thing out of square by spring.
Powder coat chips at the feet and along folded joints; touch-up paint and a wipe of the fasteners each season are the recurring items. Wood tops want oil, not varnish, and woven seats fray where the frame edge rubs. Bring cushions and the frame indoors before the first hard freeze rather than covering wet metal.
The price on the tag is the cheap part. Budget for replacement cushions, a cover that actually breathes, touch-up paint, and the floor or shed space it occupies off-season. A cheap steel frame that rusts through on a coastal or salt-air site costs more over a decade than an aluminum one you never repaint.
Frame warranties usually outlast finish warranties, so read which one covers rust-through versus a chipped coat. Photograph the crate before opening and keep the carton through the return window; freight damage on a glass top is a claim, not a defect. Confirm who pays return shipping on a heavy item.
