How many BTU for my room?

About 20 BTU per square foot, more for sunny or poorly insulated rooms. Oversizing causes short cycling and poor humidity removal.

Do mini-splits heat too?

Most are heat pumps and heat well until deep cold, where capacity drops. Check the rated heating output at your winter temperature.

115V or 230V?

115V suits 9,000-12,000 BTU units on a dedicated circuit; larger units need 230V and an electrician.

What is SEER2?

The current efficiency rating, tested at higher external pressure than SEER. A higher number means lower running cost.

Can I install it myself?

You can mount the indoor unit, but the lines need vacuuming and charging, which needs gauges and a licence in many places.

How often do filters need cleaning?

Every two to four weeks in season. A clogged filter is the most common cause of poor cooling and icing.
