Leaf Blowers FAQ
Judge by what the debris does on contact. Volume shifts a matted pile as one mass; speed peels single leaves off gravel and turf. In wet snow or the plowed ridge at the end of a driveway, volume matters more — slush is heavy and won't break apart for a narrow, fast nozzle. Choose volume if your edges collect a wet bank every storm.
Assemble the tube and check the intake before the first charge, then decide where the pack lives. Cold packs shed runtime, so charge and store indoors or in a heated space — an unheated shed on the north side of the house is the wrong address. Hang the unit off the floor and keep the nozzle clear of grit.
Plan for the highest setting, because that is what clearing a wet driveway edge actually asks for; the middle speeds are for dry leaves on pavement. Noise matters on a suburban lot, so run it when neighbors are awake. In icy conditions, expect the pack to quit earlier than it does in October.
Clean the intake and tube after every wet session — slush leaves grit that wears the housing and the impeller edge. Store the pack at room temperature and top it up before long idle stretches. If you notice the nozzle vibrating harder than usual, stop and check for a bent or clogged tube before the next storm.
The pack, not the unit, is the recurring bill. Buying a second pack costs more than most people expect, and it is the only way to finish a long driveway in wet snow, since the highest setting drains fastest. If your driveway is long and the snow is heavy, a blower is the wrong tool no matter how it is rated.
Ask separately about coverage for the tool and for the pack — they are not always the same term, and the pack is what fails first in cold. Keep the receipt and register the unit. Dry it out and drain any water before shipping it back; moisture is the first thing a service center checks.
